| HOMETOWN HEADLINES FLINT THE FLINT JOURNAL FIRST EDITION Thursday, July 13, 2006 JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Porcha Lawrence, a 2006 graduate of Northwestern High School, has received the David S. Holmes scholarship, worth $500. Lawrence, valedictorian of Northwestern, plans to attend the University of Michigan-Flint in the fall. State Rep. Brenda Clack, D-Flint, founded the scholarship in 2005 to honor Holmes, a Democratic senator from Detroit who died in office in 1994. UAW Region 1-C initially provided funding for the scholarship.
